Description: Do you know who your ancestors were? Do you know enough to describe their lives? During this course you will learn the principles of modern genealogical research methods, including how to discover your ancestors and their lives using key records such as censuses, church and vital records, military records, newspapers, directories, naturalization and ship records, local histories, wills, probates, and land records. Key genealogical Internet sites will be visited. The instructor will discuss both paper and software tools for recording and planning your research. Recommended reading: Christine Rose and Kay Germaine Ingalls, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Genealogy, and Val D. Greenwood, The Researcher’s Guide to American Genealogy.
